Two day Spoon Carving - October 2021

Led by Martin Damen, a master maker of hand-carved spoons and bowls, and an experienced woodworking tutor. This one day workshop will be held in our purpose-built Teaching Barn at the Sylva Wood Centre.

Spoon carving is a traditional craft that most can learn. The tools required are few and affordable and the wood is usually available locally at little or no cost. You too, can learn to make beautiful and useful spoons either for your own use or as gifts that will be truly appreciated.  The course requires no previous experience, just an enthusiasm to learn a traditional craft, everything else is provided.

You will start by learning how to use traditional tools safely and effectively before making your first simple project. Having mastered the basic techniques we progress to making your first hand-carved wooden spoon. Time permitting you can then make other items.  During the course you will also learn: What wood to use and where to find it and how to care for and sharpen your tools.
