Pole lathe course

A two-day course to learn how to work with green wood using simple hand tools, and a pole lathe, to create a stool with turned legs. Under the expert tuition of green woodworker Peter Wood.

Saturday 9th-Sunday 10th March 2019

9.30am to 4.00pm

  • Learn about different tree species and understand why different woods are suitable for different tasks, how growth effects its use, and look at wood suitable for cleaving.
  • Learn how to cleave wood.
  • Learn basic axe work and use a shaving horse, drawknives to rough shape the stool legs.
  • Learn how to turn leg components on a traditional pole lathe
  • Shape a stool seat using planes, inshaves, travishers and spokeshaves.
  • Finishing with a great stool to take home.
