The perfect introduction to steam-bending for designers and architects, led by a leading practitioner.

The Vine Staircase by Charlie Whinney

Saturday 12th October 2019

9.30am to 4.00pm

The perfect introduction to steam-bending for designers and architects.  Get a practical overview to sourcing and selecting the best wood; bend ten species; 2D and 3D bends; three types of compression strap; twisting, splitting and powered bends. At the end of the day we will look at a range of case studies that use the process in architecture and furniture, understanding exactly how each project was achieved and what further opportunities there are... and make your own unique steam-bent candlestick to take home!!!

I'm a professional furniture maker and was looking to expend my knowledge of woodworking with a course on steambending. Charlie's course was recommended to me by a fellow maker and as he is already a highly respected maker in his field I knew I would be in good hands.
